Established in 1979 through a Swedish development project, it has become one of southern Africa’s most celebrated examples of sustainable craft industry and community enterprise. Originally called Swazi Glass Craft, the factory trained local artisans under Swedish mentorship at Kosta Boda glassworks. After closing briefly in 1985, it was revived in 1987 by the Prettejohn family from South Africa, who reinstated production and rehired original glassblowers. Among them was master craftsman Sibusiso Mhlanga, later instrumental in training new generations of artisans.
