South Sudan is a landlocked country in East-Central Africa that gained independence from Sudan in 2011, becoming the world’s newest nation. South Sudan borders Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic.
