Makhtesh Ramon

Makhtesh Ramon is a vast erosion cirque located in Israel’s Negev Desert, about 85 km south of Beersheba. Often called the “Ramon Crater,” it is the world’s largest makhtesh a landform created by erosion rather than impact or volcanism. The site anchors Israel’s Ramon Nature Reserve and is a focal point for both geotourism and earth-science research. Makhtesh Ramon’s undisturbed surfaces and spectral diversity make it a global benchmark for Earth-observation research. Its blend of dramatic geology, cultural memorials, and desert solitude positions it as both a natural laboratory and one of Israel’s premier scenic landmarks

The Western Wall

The Western Wall, also known as the Kotel, is a sacred limestone retaining wall in Jerusalem’s Old City. It is the holiest accessible site in Judaism, revered as the closest physical point to the ancient Temple’s Holy of Holies. The Wall also attracts millions of visitors of all faiths for prayer, reflection, and cultural pilgrimage. The Western Wall is a surviving section of the retaining structure built by King Herod I to expand the Second Jewish Temple complex atop the Temple Mount. After the Roman destruction of the Temple in 70 CE, the wall remained as a vestige of profound spiritual and historical importance, symbolizing Jewish endurance and connection to Jerusalem across centuries.

Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv–Yafo is a coastal metropolis in central Israel, combining the modern city of Tel Aviv with the ancient port of Jaffa (Yafo). Founded in 1909 and unified with Jaffa in 1950, it is Israel’s second-largest city and the core of its largest metropolitan area. It functions as the nation’s economic, cultural, and technological capital, renowned for its beaches, nightlife, and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Tel Aviv began as a Jewish garden suburb north of ancient Jaffa. Its founders envisioned a modern Hebrew-speaking city rooted in European urban ideals. Rapid expansion during the British Mandate and waves of immigration in the 1920s–30s transformed it into the largest city in pre-state Palestine. The merger with Jaffa in 1950 unified a modern hub with one of the world’s oldest ports.
