Kazakhstan is a landlocked country in Central Asia and Eastern Europe, known for its vast steppes, diverse landscapes, and rich natural resources. It is the world’s ninth-largest country by area and the dominant economic power in Central Asia, shaped by both nomadic heritage and Soviet-era development.
Kazakhstan spans from the Caspian Sea in the west to the Altai Mountains in the east, bordering Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. Its terrain includes semi-desert steppes, mountains, and large lakes such as Balkhash and the remnants of the Aral Sea. The country’s size grants it diverse climates and ecosystems.
Kazakhstan possesses major reserves of oil, natural gas, coal, and uranium, forming the backbone of its export economy. Economic reforms and foreign investment have made it a key energy supplier and transit hub between Europe and Asia. Diversification efforts target agriculture, manufacturing, and digital technology.
