Kuwait is a small, oil-rich country located in the northeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula, bordering Iraq and Saudi Arabia. It is known for its high-income economy, vast petroleum reserves, and strategic position on the Persian Gulf. Kuwait plays a significant role in regional politics and global energy markets.
Kuwait covers about 17,800 square kilometers, consisting mostly of flat desert terrain with minimal natural freshwater sources. The country experiences an arid climate, characterized by extremely hot summers and mild winters. Its coastal position along the Persian Gulf provides access to key maritime trade routes.
Kuwait is a constitutional emirate ruled by the Al-Sabah family. The Emir serves as head of state, while the Prime Minister leads the government. It has one of the most politically active parliaments in the Gulf region, the National Assembly, which exercises legislative and oversight powers. Political life features a mix of elected representatives and appointed ministers.
Kuwait’s economy depends heavily on oil, which accounts for about 90% of government revenue. The country possesses around 6% of the world’s proven oil reserves. The Kuwaiti dinar is among the world’s strongest currencies. In recent years, diversification efforts have focused on finance, logistics, and technology sectors under the “Vision 2035” development plan.
