Uzbekistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia bordered by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan. It is known for its Silk Road heritage, Islamic architecture, and strategic location connecting East and West. Since independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Uzbekistan has pursued economic modernization and regional influence.
Uzbekistan covers over 447,000 square kilometers, making it the most populous Central Asian nation. Much of its terrain is desert and steppe, with the Kyzylkum Desert dominating the west and mountain ranges in the east. It experiences a continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters.
Uzbekistan’s economy relies on natural gas, gold, cotton, and a growing manufacturing base. Economic reforms in the 2010s and 2020s have aimed to attract foreign investment and diversify exports. The government continues to liberalize trade and improve infrastructure to support tourism and regional connectivity.
Uzbekistan is a presidential republic led by a strong executive. Recent administrations have pursued gradual political reforms, greater openness, and improved relations with neighboring countries. Socially, the nation emphasizes education, youth development, and modernization while preserving traditional family and cultural values.
