Czech Republic, also known as Czechia, is a landlocked country located in Central Europe. It is bordered by Germany to the west, Poland to the north, Slovakia to the east, and Austria to the south. Covering an area of about 78,900 square kilometers, the Czech Republic has a population of approximately 10.9 million people. The country is known for its rich history, medieval architecture, cultural traditions, and strong industrial economy.

The capital and largest city is Prague, one of Europe’s most beautiful and visited cities. Prague is famous for its well-preserved historic center, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city features iconic landmarks such as Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, and the Astronomical Clock. Prague is also an important center for education, business, and tourism.

Other major cities include Brno, the country’s second-largest city and a major university center; Ostrava, known for its industrial heritage; and Plzeň, famous worldwide as the birthplace of Pilsner beer.

The Czech Republic has a diverse landscape consisting of rolling hills, forests, mountains, and fertile plains. Mountain ranges such as the Krkonoše Mountains form natural borders and provide opportunities for skiing and hiking. Rivers including the Vltava and the Elbe are important for transportation and recreation.

The official language is Czech, a Slavic language closely related to Slovak. English and German are also widely spoken, especially in urban areas and tourist destinations. The Czech Republic is known for its literary and artistic traditions, with famous figures such as Franz Kafka and Václav Havel making significant contributions to world culture and politics.

Historically, the Czech lands formed the historic region of Bohemia and were an important part of the Holy Roman Empire. Later, they became part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After the First World War, the country joined with Slovakia to form Czechoslovakia in 1918.

Following the Second World War, Czechoslovakia became a communist state aligned with the Soviet Union. In 1989, the peaceful Velvet Revolution ended communist rule. On January 1, 1993, Czechoslovakia peacefully split into two independent countries: the Czech Republic and Slovakia, in an event known as the Velvet Divorce.

Today, the Czech Republic has a highly developed economy based on manufacturing, engineering, automotive production, technology, and tourism. It is a member of the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. With its historic cities, vibrant culture, beautiful landscapes, and strong economy, the Czech Republic is one of the most prosperous and attractive countries in Central Europe.
